Thomson Reuters is retiring FileCabinet CS
Every document out of FileCabinet CS. In a weekend or less.
We restore your FileCabinet CS backups into ordinary folders, one per client, with your drawer and folder structure intact. Then we prove every file came across unchanged. You don’t need FileCabinet installed, and your client data never leaves your office.
Why firms call us
Getting years of client files out of FileCabinet is harder than it should be.
FileCabinet CS reaches end of life at the end of 2027, and hosted Virtual Office access ends on its own schedule. When it’s gone, your backup files may be the only copy you have. And FileCabinet can’t open them anymore.
One at a time
Exporting through FileCabinet means “Send To” for each document, for every client, while the session freezes on large drawers.
8–10 min
Thomson Reuters’ own estimate to move one 30-document drawer with its Onvio tool. Drawers are locked while they move, and the tool only goes to Onvio.
No proof
Most migrations end with “it should all be there.” You need to know it is, especially for documents you’re required to retain.
How it works
From backup files to verified folders over one weekend.
-
1
Free health check
A small read-only tool runs on your PC. It counts your drawers and documents and flags damaged or incomplete backups, so you get a fixed price based on facts.
-
2
Weekend restore
We run the restore on your machine while the office is closed. Each drawer becomes a folder with FileCabinet’s folders and file names kept.
-
3
Independent verification
A second pass re-reads every backup and checks each restored file byte-for-byte (SHA-256), page by page and text by text. It’s then reconciled against your drawer list.
-
4
Report and hand-off
You get a migration report for your records, and folders ready to import into CCH Axcess Document, SmartVault, TaxDome, Karbon or any other system.
What you get back
Real files you can open, search and keep.
- PDFs and scanned documents, exactly as filed
- UltraTax CS returns printed to FileCabinet, converted to searchable PDFs
- Word, Excel and other Office files in their original formats
- Outlook e-mails filed into client drawers
- Drawer notes saved alongside each client’s files
- A named list of anything your backups are missing, so you can export it before your access ends
Why TekBryte
Security people, handling your clients’ most sensitive records.
Your data stays in your building
Everything runs on your own computer. No uploads, no cloud copy, no third party holding tax returns.
Proof, not promises
Every file is fingerprinted and checked. If anything didn’t come across, the report names it.
Built for this exact job
Our own software reads FileCabinet’s backup files directly. That’s why it’s fast, and why it works after FileCabinet is gone.
A cybersecurity firm, not a reseller
TekBryte is led by a security-cleared, 22-year military cyber operations specialist and does penetration testing and security audits for Pacific Northwest businesses.
Pricing
Flat fee, based on how many clients you have.

Questions
Before you call
Do we need FileCabinet CS installed or a Virtual Office login?
No. We work from FileCabinet’s own backup files. If you still have access, the health check tells you whether any drawers need a fresh backup first.
Does our client data leave the office?
No. The restore and verification run on a computer in your office, and the results are saved to your own drive or server. We can work on-site anywhere from Olympia to Seattle, or remotely.
What if some documents aren’t in our backups?
FileCabinet’s own backups occasionally leave documents out. Our report lists each one by drawer and name, so you can export just those few while you still have access. Nothing goes missing silently.
Which document system can we move to?
Any of them. You get standard files in standard folders, ready for CCH Axcess Document, SmartVault, TaxDome, Karbon, Canopy, a file server or SharePoint.
How long does it really take?
Most firms are done in a weekend. The restore itself is largely automated; the time goes into checking and into any drawers the health check flags.
Are you affiliated with Thomson Reuters?
No. TekBryte is an independent IT and cybersecurity firm. We help firms recover their own documents from their own backups.
